Mabait’s win at Headquarters yesterday, the 26th September, was not only Khalifa Dasmal’s sixth win of the season but a second winning ride out of twelve opportunities for George Buckell his stylish apprentice rider. Many more to come I am sure.

The United States (Galileo) continues to deliver on his initial promise and he made all the running to take his tally to two wins from three starts this season in the Group 3 Enterprise Stakes at Leopardstown last Saturday over 10 furlongs.

He was strongly pressed by Elleval (Kodiac) nearing the last furlong but kept pulling out more to remain in front. The rain softened ground was a concern for this colt but he handled it well and could be set for a further rise in class. This was only his fourth career start so there could well be better to come from him.

The United States is a half-brother to the Gr.3 Ballyogan,Gr.3 Anglesey and Gr.3 Phoenix Sprint Stakes heroine Fire Lily (Dansili) who was also placed several times at Gr.1 level. They are the first two foals out the
classy Beauty Is Truth (Pivotal) who won the Gr.2 Prix du Gros-Chene and the Gr.3 Prix d’Arenberg. She is out of the Gr.3 Prix du Bois and Listed Prix Cercle scorer Zelding (Warning), who is the dam of the talented Glorious Sight (Singspiel), who won the Listed Prix Finlande, as well as finishing second in the Gr.1 Poule d’Essai des Pouliches and third in the Gr.1 Prix de Diane.

Zelding’s siblings include the Gr.2 Prix Robert Papin winner Zipping (Zafonic), who also reached the frame in the Gr.1 Prix Morny and Gr.1 Middle Park Stakes. The third dam, Zelda (Caerleon), also produced the Gr.3 Prix du Petit Couvert victor Nipping (Night Shift) and the Listed-placed Aso Rock (King’s Theatre). Zelda is a half-sister to the outstanding Gr.1-winning sprinter and sire Last Tycoon (Try My Best) and the Gr.2 performer and sire Astronef (Be My Guest), from the family of the French Classic winners Tie Black and Valentine Waltz. Beauty Is Truth is a sister of KOCOONING the dam of purchased Orpen yearling.

Great excitement as Clever Miss bought by Mark for just £12,000 is entered in the Group 3 Prix du Calvados and the Group 1 Shadwell Fillies Mile.

On the 28th May three year old filly Maid A Million won wire to wire in such a fashion that the handicapper raised her 14 pounds in the handicap . She was giving Khalifa Dasmal his third winner of the season. The Racing Post described it: She´ll be hard to beat if turned out under a penalty.

Today she reappears under a penalty over a furlong further. She will probably go off at odds on favourite and we wish her luck.

She was bought at Tattersalls December Yearling Sale in 2011 by Mark for 30,000 guineas.

Another Crossman purchase (12 guineas), Clever Miss, runs for the second time later this evening and we expect a good show.

Yesterday at Salon Provence near Marseilles Prince Suhail, bought by Mark Crossman as a yearling at the 2011 Arqana Paradise Sale for Euro150,000, lost his maiden in a Premium Maiden over nine furlongs on his third start having always been placed previously. His trainer, Francois Rohaut, feels he will improve again over a little further next time. By Marju the three year old colt is out of Lawman, Satri and Latice’s sister Larme. He was bred by Lady O’Reilly’s Petra Bloodstock.

Majeed, a three year old colt by Mount Nelson out of Clever Millie, broke his maiden on his second outing recording a cosy win in a fair maiden at Wolverhampton yesterday. The colt was bought at the Deauville Paradise Sale in 2011 by Mark Crossman on behalf of and in the presence of Mr Khalifa Dasmal for €120,000.

The Racing Post reported:

A fair maiden.

MAJEED, all the better for his debut outing in November, travelled best and kicked clear off the turn in, but he edged over to the rail and became vulnerable to the late finish of the runner-up. His greater experience told, though, and he held on a shade cosily.

The Dasmal Team have a two year old full sister called CLEVER MISS in training with northern handler Alan McCabe.

Mark Crossman, Racing Manager to Dream Ahead’s owner Khalifa Dasmal, also dipped his toe into the market when securing a Kildaragh Stud-bred and consigned offering by Jeremy.

The colt is the third foal out of a Dalakhani half sister to the Royal Lodge winner Mons and Group 1 placed mare Inforapenny.

“He was a very nice horse, our pick of the day” said Crossman “He’s a well made individual with a great walk and he’s very correct”.

As the turf season comes to a close with still some, if not the best two year olds yet to come out, next year is full of promise with all the two year olds that have run being rated 74 or over with two being rated 79. SURGE AHEAD by Danehill Dancer looks a promising type having won his maiden second time out as well as DREAM CAST by Refuse to Bend who was also rated 79 when coming second second time out. We are hopeful that MAID A MILLION will break her maiden before the end of the year.

We have purchased eight exciting new yearlings this year so far which are destined to be trained by Robert Cowell, David Simcock, Marco Botti, Ed Walker, Alan McCabe and fresh to us, Derby winning trainer Peter Chapple Hyam.

This is a list of the yearlings:-

2011 colt by ROCK OF GIBRALTAR ex SOUTHERN HOUSE
2011 colt by HENNY HUGHES ex COSMIC WING
2011 colt by BUSHRANGER ex TATORA (SERGEANT STEELE)
2011 colt by COMPTON PLACE ex RINGAROOMA (AYA’S GIFT)
2011 colt by JEREMY ex ELOUGES
2011 colt by KYLLACHY ex NIGHT PREMIERE (COLONEL ALI)
2011 filly by MOUNT NELSON ex CLEVER MILLIE
2011 filly by MIZZEN MAST ex HASHEEMA

Khalifa Dasmal has had a good season with seven winners in the UK and France totaling nine wins from fourteen individual runners. With the only disappointment being the sidelining of Group 1 winner Prohibit with a knee injury. We are expecting him back at full throttle next year.

Pelican Key, who last week had not had a winning offspring until last Friday when the filly Plum Bay, her three year old first foal, came from last to first to score at headquarters on the July Course. Then within a week, her second foal, two year old Jumeirah Moon, broke his maiden convincingly yesterday to make her a perfect mare in respect of winners to runners. Both matings were conceived by Mark Crossman as was that of her yearling by Elnadim. She also has a Hellvelyn foal.

Plum Bay is owned by Mark Crossman and her legendary trainer David Elsworth whilst Jumeirah Moon was bought back for Mr Dasmal by Mark Crossman for £15,000 at the DBS Festival sale as a yearling.

Cahmere Rose, a three year old filly by Cape Cross, became Mr Khalifa Dasmal’s fifth winner of the year on 30th July, when coming from way behind to break her maiden in France. This was her third run and the first over the distance of one and a half miles.

Yesterday, 2nd August, Dream Cast a two year old colt by Refuse to Bend, was just caught when looking the winner of a six furlong Class 4 maiden at Ffos Las. This was a significant improvement on his debut performance and he looks to be shaping into a nice horse. The Racing Post reported: “Dream Cast looked to have put his seal on this when bursting through to take over inside the final furlong but his run just flattened out close home and he was collared. This was definitely a big step forward from his debut run and he already looks good enough to pocket a maiden before going up in class”.

Both horses were bought by Mark Crossman as yearlings.
